Mr. Robert Durrel Cassady, of Dothan, passed away surrounded by family, Tuesday, September 13, 2016. He was 75.
Born April 19, 1941 in Graceville, Florida to the late Milton and Cloice White Cassady, Robert served his country in the Air National Guard. He was a member of Cloverdale Baptist Church and taught Sunday School and Training Union for many years. He loved the Lord and was a Deacon at Cloverdale Baptist Church. Robert was instrumental in the organization and beginning of Wiregrass Park where he coached Dixie Youth Baseball for many years. He owned the semi-professional football team, the Dothan Chiefs and was an avid Alabama football fan. He worked as an insurance agent for many years and owned Dothan Restaurant & Store Equipment. Robert was also an ordained minister and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl Cassady and James Roy Cassady; his sister, Lillie Holland; and his grandson, Milton Craig Cassady, II.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha Ellen Holley Cassady; his daughter, Christa Lynn McWhorter; his sons, Milton Craig Cassady (Candi Hobbs) and Robert “Bobby” Durrel Cassady, II (Darlene); his grandchildren, Tonya Cassady, Emily Cassady, Lee Peters (Ashley), and Elizabeth Knolle (Kaprice); his great-grandchildren, Liam Peters, Jada Rose Knolle, and Isaiah Knolle; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, September 17, 2016 from Cloverdale Baptist Church with Dr. Ray McKenzie and Reverend Lee Peters officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2:30 PM prior to the service.
Serving as active pallbearers will be nephews of Mr. Cassady.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Billy Griswold Sunday School Class.
