Mr. Robert Earl Greathouse passed away Monday, January 2, 2023, surrounded by family.
Born September 30, 1942 in Barbour County, Alabama to the late Harvey and Birdie Benefield Greathouse, Robert was a graduate of Cottonwood High School and served his country in the Alabama National Guard. He was a long time member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where he served for many years as an usher. Robert retired from Twitchell Corporation after 49 years and served over 20 years in the funeral industry, with over 14 years with Ward Wilson Funeral Home. He was also active in many civic organizations, including the Ashford Lions Club. Robert will be remembered for his hard work ethic, his generosity, and quick wit. He enjoyed fishing and walking with his dog, Andy, during his spare time. He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Wells Greathouse; his son, Rob Greathouse; his daughters, Kay Kornegay (Steve) and Kim Kelley (Mark); his grandchildren, Stetson Kornegay (Laurie), Stehle Kornegay (Ambre), PK Kelley (Jessica), and Hannah Grace Kelley; his great-grandchildren, Eden Kornegay, Roman Kornegay, and Nolan Kornegay; his brothers, Gerald Greathouse (Queen) and Lenard Greathouse; a special niece, Lauretta Greathouse; special family friends, Natasha Braddy and Patti Exum; a special work family to whom he was affectionately known as “Pops”.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30 PM, Friday, January 6, 2023 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Dr. Ray Jones officiating.
