Mr. Robert Kearney Kirkby, age 83, of Dothan, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022.
Born June 14, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Kearney Kirkby and Esther MacNally Kirkby, Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 25 years. He was an active member of the church, sang in the church choir, and taught 7th and 8th grade Sunday School for almost 40 years. He enjoyed playing the flute and woodworking, including building model wooden ships, and he was an avid golf player. For many years, Bob owned a sign/billboard company before working for Durden Outdoor. Bob designed a Dothan landmark, the clock tower billboard in downtown Dothan.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his brother, Dale Kirkby and his sister, Mary Ellen Kirkby.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Helon Kirkby; his sons, Steve Kirkby (Chrissie), Kevin Kirkby (Kathy), Jeff Kirkby, and Will Murphy (Ashley); his grandchildren, Anthony Kirkby (David), Todd Kirkby (Tia), and Wesley Murphy; his great-grandchildren, Jayden, Peyton, and Briella; his sisters, Ann Barden (Hernan), Pat Eland (Tom), and Cathy Ott (Larry); his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Kirkby and Freida Spikes (Jimmie); his brother-in-law, Henry Dale Smith (Lesa); several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM, Sunday, August 21, 2022 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. David Saliba officiating. Visitation to follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 1380 W Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.
