Obituary: Mr. Roger Wayne Battles


  


Mr. Roger Wayne Battles of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully on Monday May 20, 2013. He was 56.

 Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. (CST) on Saturday, May 25 at New Teamon Baptist Church, 3813 S. County Road 85, Slocomb, AL with Reverend Wendell Holmes officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.


 Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the New Teamon Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, ICO Ann Myers, 4114 South County Road 85 Slocomb, AL 36375. 


The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 until 8:00 p.m. 

Roger was born on August 25, 1956, to Gerald Battles and F. Lounell Scarborough Battles in Columbus, Georgia. After earning his degree in Christian Education with a minor in Music from Florida Baptist Theological College, he spent many years serving in various Southern Baptist Churches. Roger also started a lifelong career in the jewelry industry at the young age of 16. Both of these passions led to strong lifelong friendships that Roger cherished dearly. Aside from being a devoted family man and employee, Roger enjoyed playing golf, grilling, and the Atlanta Braves.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Gerald C. Battles of Columbus, GA, his brother, Mark S. Battles of Atlanta, GA, and brother- in-law, Harold Hall of Auburn, Al.

He is survived by his four children: Jeff and Jamie Battles of Columbus, GA, Tina and Michael Gray of  Tacoma, WA, Candy Battles of Atlanta, GA, and  Julie Battles of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren: Madelyn Battles, Bella Battles, Elizabeth Gray, Luciana Gray, and Alexandra Gray; his mother, F. Lounell Battles of Columbus, GA;  his siblings: JoAnn Hall of Auburn, AL, Bobby and Sheila Battles of Talbotton, GA, Carol and Tommy Smith of Fortson, GA; sister-in-law Veronica Battles of  Dacula, GA; Peggy Battles of Columbus, GA; as well as numerous  nieces and nephews.
