Roland Massie Vaughan, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, died Friday, August 27, 2021 at Southeast Health. He was 79.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
Born to the late Roland and Gertrude Church Vaughan on November 17, 1941. He was a graduate of the Philadelphia Technical Institute before moving to Dothan in 1977 and working in the cigar manufacturing industry. He retired as manager of engineering from Swedish Match in 2008 with over forty years of service. He and his wife were charter members of Liberty Baptist church in Dothan, where he served as elder. He also served on the board of the Florida State Line Association of Free Will Baptist. They both were well known throughout the wiregrass with Mrs. Ethel’s larger than life laugh and Roland’s quiet, steady and faithful demeanor. Both were extremely generous and always willing to lend a hand. Holiday celebrations at their home often included those who would otherwise be alone. They loved to travel and were inseparable until her death in 2019. Roland intentionally made everyone he met feel important and included. He leaves behind a loving family and a legacy of integrity in every area of his life. He was the definition of faithfulness.
Mr. Vaughan was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Gertrude Church Vaughan; his wife of sixty -years, Ethel Brooks Vaughan; a daughter, Nanette Ferguson and one sister, Janet Marie Vaughan.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Vaughan Sr (Patsy); two grandsons, John Ferguson (Tina) and Michael Beetem; four great grandchildren, William Ezell, James Beetem, Hannah Ferguson, and Jeremiah Beetem; one brother-in-law, Bob Brooks (Brenda); Several nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.
