Mr. Roy Locklar passed away on August 30th, 2016.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 2, 2016 at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Enterprise with Pastor Michael Mynatt officiating. Burial will follow at the Meadowlawn Cemetery. Family and Friends may visit at the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until service time. The family will allow flowers or donations may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 500 Alberta St Enterprise ,Alabama 36330.
Mr Locklar was born October 7, 1925 in Coffee County to the late John W. and Dell Folsom Locklar. He attended Coffee County Schools at Farmers Academy, New Hope and New Brockton High where he graduated. He was raised on the farm where he helped to grow crops and animals.
After High School he was inducted into the U.S. Army (Serial Number 44032916) where he received Basic Training and, army administration training at FT Knox, KY. He was promoted to E2 and transferred to Germany. He was sent over the Atlantic on The Queen Mary with more than 15,000 other troops. He was assigned to the 28th Tank Battalion as a Co. Clerk. He was later transferred to the 16th Armored Artillery BN where he was assigned to Battalion level as a supply Clerk where he attained the grade of T Sgt (E6) as BN Supply SGT. He served from Oct. 7,1944 until his Honorable Discharge at FT Bragg, NC on Aug 7,1946.
After he returned home he gained admission to the University of Alabama as a Freshman on Sept. 16,1946. He entered the School of Commerce and Business Administration and less than 33 months later graduated with a BS degree in Accounting.
After graduation he returned home where he obtained a job with an insurance Co. where he worked for about 10 months. He then went to FT. Rucker where he was hired to work at the Post Engineer as cost Accounting Clerk. At that time he obtained a transfer to the Finance & Accounting where began to work as the Operating Accounting and supervisor of the Accounting Branch. He later was moved to the Comptroller where he was promoted to the position of Accounting Officer. He retired from FT. Rucker in 1988 with more than 40 years of Federal Service.
Roy was a long time member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Enterprise.
In retirement he spent a lot of his time working on genealogy. A lot of time was used to compile the booklet The Locklar Family History.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years Mrs Addie Sue Drinkard Locklar of Enterprise, 2 sons Philip Steven Locklar (Heather)of N. Charleston, SC, Thomas Keith Locklar of Montgomery, AL; 2 daughters Melissa Rae Bell (Lynn) of Headland, AL, Susan Denise Howell (Marcus)of Enterprise, AL: 4 Grandchildren, Weston T Bell (Ashley) Dothan, AL, Gillian M. Locklar N. Charlston, SC, Stephanie E Locklar, Colorado Springs, Co, Kelly A. Daniel(Jeff), Auburn, AL: Two Great Grandchildren, Lorelai Josie Bell and Dax Fletcher Bell of Dothan, AL : One Sister. Peggy Locklar Barnett, Huntsville ,AL. Deceased include 6 brothers Theadore Donald Locklar, John Kenneth Locklar, Infant Locklar, GC Locklar, Jesse Ray Locklar, Billy Harold Locklar. One sister, Roslyn Locklar, one brother in law, Everett Barnett, two sisters in law, Myrtle Locklar and Ruth Locklar.
