Mr. Russell Zane Jones, age 89, of Newton, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at a local hospital after an extended illness.


Graveside memorial services will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL at 12:00 p.m. CDT (1:00 p.m. EST) on Friday, July 7, 2017. Officiating the service will be Chaplain Jim Breckenridge and Chaplain Linda Lesane with Kendall Glover directing.


In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital, 2900 N. Ricky Point Drive, Tampa, FL, 33607 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105. 


Mr. Jones was born in Hardin, Kentucky on February 18, 1928, the son of the late Fred and Grace Jones.  He was a graduate of Hardin High School.  He formerly lived in Roan Mountain, TN, before moving to Wicksburg.  Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Army and Navy before retiring from the U. S. Air Force and was a WWII veteran. 


Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers Ivan Jones, Gary Morris Jones and Roger Jones; five sisters Hilda R. Jones, Billie Cooper, Marion Sparks, Bobbie Buchanon, and Sammie Lane.


Survivors include his wife of 67 years Emma Jones, a son Rick (Cindy) Jones of Shiloh, GA; a daughter Elizabeth Jean (Herman) Fagley of Morganton, GA; five grandchildren Jennie Dobson, Curtis Jones, Tara Light, Mathew Gibson, and Christopher Jones; three great-grandchildren Robert Dobson, Jr., Emily Light, and Harrison Light; and one sister-in-law Edna Earl Jones of Alamo, KY; and several nieces and nephews.
