OZARK…Mr. Sammy Blocker (Captain, Ozark Police Department, Retired), a resident of Ozark, died early Sunday morning, February 19, 2023, after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was 67.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 22, 2023, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Alan Benefield and Mr. Bryant Mixon officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. At other times, the family will be at the home of his daughter, Amy, 315 County Road 30, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
Mr. Blocker, son of the late Macon Casey Blocker and Minnie Frances Peters Blocker, was a native of Ozark. He was a 1974 Graduate of Carroll High School. Mr. Blocker began working with the Ozark Police Department in 1977 and retired in 2007 with the rank of Captain. He enjoyed University of Alabama Football, hunting, and most of all supporting his grandchildren by attending their sporting events. Mr. Blocker was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Drew.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Donna Burlingham Blocker; two sons, Craig Blocker (Jessica) and Chris Blocker (Jennifer), all of Ozark; two daughters, Amy Barton (Mitchell), Ozark and Tracy Jones, Enterprise; his sister, Ann Payne (Gerald), Dothan; his brother, Randy Blocker, Lanett, Alabama; twelve grandchildren, Brianna Blocker, Maddie McDaniel, BriAnne Little (Scott), Raven Leggett (Robert), Abby Blocker, Brayden Jones, Hayston Jones, Steven Barton (Hanne), Morgan Barton, Jonathon Barton (Emma Kate), Caden Barton, and Macon Barton; eight great grandchildren and one on the way; several nieces and nephews.
