Mr. Shelby Mark Ott, of Dothan, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017. He was 82.
Born March 12, 1935 in Houston County to the late Harmon Thomas and Caty Elizabeth Champion Ott, he was one of ten children. Raised a sharecropper, Shelby owned numerous businesses and commercial real estate including Pete & Troy’s and the Tastee Freeze. He was a gifted musician on both the guitar and the piano and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Shelby was a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Halford Ott; his brothers, Arthur Ott and James Ott; and his sisters, Annie Pearl Ott Wilkerson, Flossie Hall, Alice Cherry, and Marguruite Johnson.
Shelby is survived by his daughter, Tammie (Chip) Whitman; his son, Tim (Patsy) Ott; his sisters, Eunice Maddox and Audrey (Reynolds) McNeil; his grandchildren, Timothy Ott, Matthew Ott, Taylor Whitman, and Hunter Whitman; a very special friend, Corlien Davis; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jerry Hughes and Dr. John Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 11 AM prior to the service.
The family will be accepting flowers.
The family would like say a special thank you to the Palliative Care Team at Three East at SAMC and the staff of Alacare Hospice.
