SJ was born on March 19, 1930, in Slocomb, Alabama to the late Willie Woodham and Linnie Carroll Woodham. As a young man, SJ served proudly in the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged as a Corporal. His service with Dothan Fire Department began shortly after being discharged from the Army. SJ ranked up to Fire Captain before retiring after 31 dedicated years.
SJ was a hardworking man, quick witted, and always giving his very best in everything he set out to accomplish. He was ever-ready, no matter what the situation presented. There was one rank that was higher than Captain, and that was “Big Daddy.” His home was a gathering place for his family to make many memories. SJ loved spending time with his grandchildren, every day 2:30 coffee time, and making homemade biscuits from scratch.
In addition to his parents, Willie Woodham and Linnie Woodham, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lauralene "Polly" Hodges Woodham; daughter, Stephanie Woodham White; sons, Jonathan Woodham and Mark Woodham; brothers, Calvin Woodham, Cecil Woodham, and Ponie B Woodham; sisters, Teressa Farmer and Mattie Little; and granddaughters, Miranda Brookins Watson and Meggon Shallee Lewis.
Survivors include son, Kevin Woodham; daughters, Miriam Brookins, Olivia Jenkins (William), Robin Lewis (David), and Michele Phillips; grandchildren, Emily Caldwell (Gavin), Abbey Gilchrist (Austin), Jessica McNabb (Joseph), Elizabeth Jenkins, Melanie Jenkins (Kevin Sanders), Larry Brookins (Stephanie), and Andrew Lewis; son-in-law, Jim White; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
