Steadman Stapleton Shealy, Sr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Wesley Manor after an extended illness. He was 88 years old.

Mr. Shealy was a lifelong resident of Dothan. He graduated from Dothan High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Commerce at the University of Alabama. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant. During his second year of service, he married Peggy Brown, who he met while at the University of Alabama. The couple returned to Dothan in 1954, and Mr. Shealy joined his father and brother in the John P. Shealy & Sons Independent Adjusting Firm. Mr. Shealy was very active in the First Baptist Church of Dothan; serving as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was recently made a deacon emeritus. He was passionate about studying the Bible and sharing God’s truths. He was a member of the Dothan Rotary Club, twice being awarded a Paul Harris Fellow. Upon retiring from Rotary, he was presented an honorary lifetime membership.

Mr. Shealy was preceded in death by his parents, John Philip and Sue Stapleton Shealy. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Peggy Brown Shealy, a daughter, Madeline Shealy Villar (Kirk); a son, Steadman Stapleton Shealy, Jr. (Ann); seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, John Philip Shealy, Jr. (Beth); a brother-in-law, Bobby Brown (Charlotte); and five nieces.

Steadman was a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather, and much to his grandchildren’s delight, he was the consummate story teller. He enjoyed all sports, especially his Alabama football.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 10 at First Baptist Church, Dothan, Alabama at 2:30. The family will receive friends and relatives from 1:00-2:15 at First Baptist Church prior to the service. Mr. Shealy’s grandsons will serve as pall bearers. The family requests that memorials be sent to The Dothan/Wiregrass Fellowship of Christian Athletes, at dothanfca.org or P.O. Box 8221, Dothan, AL 36304.

The family would like to express its appreciation to those who have compassionately cared for Mr. Shealy at Wesley Manor.
