DOSTER COMMUNITY…Mr. Stephen C. McLendon, a resident of the Doster Community, near Ariton, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 2, 2023, in a Dothan hospital. He was 75.


            Homegoing services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 13, 2023, in St. Louis Baptist Church in Elamville with Pastor Roosevelt Glover officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.


            Mr. McLendon, son of the late Valley Mason McLendon and Louise Pryor McLendon, was a native of the Doster Community, near Ariton. He formerly lived in Chicago, Illinois and Compton, California before returning to Alabama in 1988. While in California, he served as a security guard at Roosevelt Junior High School. Mr. McLendon was a member of St. Louis Baptist Church in Elamville.


           Left to cherish his memories, his wife, Gwendolyn Gilmore McLendon, Doster; four daughters, Maresa McLendon, Doster, Genesis McLendon, Wendy McLendon, and Bridget Smith, all of Ozark; four sons, Omar McLendon (SFC, United States Army, Retired), Montgomery; Stephen McLendon, Jr. (Cynthia), Dothan, Demetrius McLendon, Ozark and Stephen McLendon, III, California; two sisters, Dianna Rhue-Felix, South Carolina and Valeria Hammond, Ariton; one brother, Timothy McLendon, Doster; special friend, Rodal Wheeler (Gloria), Clio; special cousins, James O. Reeves (Mary), Doster; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; his first wife, Irone Bivins McLendon, Ozark.
