Obituary: Mr. Terry Green Smith

 

Mr. Terry Green Smith passed away peacefully at Capital Hill Healthcare in Montgomery, Alabama on Saturday, July 20, 2024. He was 77 years old. 

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Keener Batchelor officiating. Burial will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continue until service time. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Freedom House, P.O. Box 850, Slocomb, AL 36375 in Mr. Smith’s memory. 

Mr. Smith was born on May 23, 1947 in Dothan, Alabama to the late Junior and Mary (Evelyn) Smith of Hartford. Terry grew up in Hartford and then resided in the Birmingham and Huntsville areas most of his life. He was a 1965 graduate of Geneva County High School where he proudly played football. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1966-1969 and served in Vietnam. Terry was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. 

In addition to his parents, one brother, Tim Smith of Hartford; and two nephews Jon and Jason Gilmore of Dothan all preceded him in death. 

Survivors include one sister, Kathy Johnson (Fred), nieces; Jennifer Quattlebaum (Scott), and Tara Patton (Clay Carter); and a very dear friend, Joy Granger; other extended family and friends.
