Terry was born in Houston County Alabama on July 3, 1937 to William Gaudy “Pete” Whaley and Ruby Louise Starling Whaley, both deceased. He graduated from Houston County High School in 1955, enlisting in the United States Navy shortly there after, serving four years.
He is survived by two sons, Todd Whaley (Tammy) and Fletcher Whaley (Crystal), both of Dothan, one daughter, Kacy Green (Larry), of Wicksburg; grandchildren, Curtis Hillman III, Saylar Green, Terry J. Whaley II, Asa Whaley, Kingston Whaley, Indy Whaley, Ollie Whaley, Jagger Harshman and Macguire Connell; brothers and sisters, William “Billy” Whaley of Bainbridge, GA, Twyla Austin (Johnny) of Midland City, Rodney Whaley (Annette) of Cowarts, Pat Cole (Ricky) of Dothan, and Debra Usry (Stan) of Cowarts.
He was self-employed earlier in his life as a master plumber as well as farming. He worked for Sony Corporation a number of years and was still performing maintenance and service work up until his death. The greatest joy of life was found in doing for others and making people laugh. He was a joy to know and loved by all who met him. He was a big, bright light in this world and filled a lot of space in the lives of so many people. His casual demeanor, constant joking, big, broad smile and belly laughs radiated the world. His quest for biblical understanding and his love for Christ set him apart as a true man of God. He will be well remembered and spoken of for many years to come as a man who fully lived out his life, approaching each day with vibrancy and the continual journey to be a better servant of the Lord. He leaves a legacy of generosity and will be missed by many.
