Thomas Jerry Mercer, a resident of Dothan, died Friday, October 21, 2022 at Southeast Health Medical Center. He was 82.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, October 25, 2022 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Memorial cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 12:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Mercer was born April 7, 1940 in Montgomery, Alabama to the late William Robert and Willa Mae Mercer. He joined the United States Army at the age of 15 and served two years before joining the United States Navy before retiring after 21 years. Following his military career, he worked for and later retired from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Mercer was a Freemason and enjoyed the outdoors and woodworking.

Mr. Mercer is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Hornsby Mercer; three sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include his children, Thomas H. Mercer (Lucy), Robert Mercer, Teresa Mercer, Tina Conway (Richard), Amanda Gilbert; grandchildren, Thomas J. Mercer, Richard Mercer, Audrey Brown, Cari Conway and Trey Conway; six great grandchildren.
