Thomas “Tommy” Carl Womack, Sr., a resident of Gordon, Alabama, formerly of Cottonwood, Alabama died Sunday, November 19, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was 77. 


Funeral services for Tommy will be held at 11 Am Wednesday, November 22, 2023 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Dr. Samuel Prim officiating. Burial will follow at Howard Grove Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 322 8th Ave, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001 or St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or one’s favorite charity. 


Tommy was the son of the late Lewis A. and Reatha Mae Womack. He was a 1964 graduate of Cottonwood High School and a member of Howard Grove FWB Church. Mr. Womack was employed with Georgia Pacific Paper Mill for nine years before deciding that farming was his true passion. He continued to farm until he fully retired in 2014. 


Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Carolyn Meadows and Sue Hall; five brothers, John, Ray, Bobby, Rex and Don Womack. 


Survivor include his wife of 57 years, Thedus Elmore Womack; children, Kimberly Galle (Michael), Ashford, Thomas Carl Womack, Jr (Loretta), Pansey and Crystal Hayes (John), Pansey; grandchildren, Shalane Jernigan (Mark), Hannah Beersdorf (Tyler), Allison Norris (William) and Landon Hayes; great grandchildren, Brodie Jernigan, Bryntley Miller, Adeline Beersdorf, Shelby Miller, Theo Beersdorf and one great grandchild on the way along with several nieces and nephews. 


The family would like to extend a special thank you to Southern Care Hospice and Lynda Kirkland who took such special care of our husband/father/grandfather during this last month.
