Obituary: Mr. William Cullen Weeks
Mr. William Cullen Weeks of Wicksburg passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 at his residence. He was 92.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church with Rev. Teddy Ward and Rev. Buddy Hood officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Weeks was born August 16, 1921 in Houston Co. to the late Simeon and Gertrude Albritton Weeks. Cullen retired from the US Army as Commanding SGT. Major at Fort Rucker after 24 years of military service. He was a dedicated member of Pilgrim Home Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, member of the choir, treasurer as well as a Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and golfing. After high school he entered the University of Alabama on a football scholarship which he willingly gave up to join the military and serve his country during World War II.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Edith Weeks; one sister, Lorraine Bonner and three brothers: Rudolph, Clarence and George Weeks preceded him in death.
Survivors include, one daughter, Toni Floyd (Ronnie), Savannah, GA; two sons: Bill Weeks (Karen), Key West, FL and Denis Weeks (Ginger), Wicksburg; grandchildren: Wendy and David Neill, Kelly and Charlie Heino, Christopher Keller, Jeremy Weeks, Lacy Weeks, Amber Weeks, Taylor Weeks, Summer Weeks and Hunter Weeks; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers, Taylor Weeks, Betty Patterson and Helen Hudgen.
