Obituary: Mr. William Lawrence Dean
Mr. William Lawrence Dean of Hartford went home to be with the Lord Monday, February 19, 2024 at Westside Terrace. He was 91.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Ronald Gillespie and Rev. Johnny Belcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 3432 County Road 36, Hartford, AL 36344.
Mr. Dean was born April 30, 1932 in Geneva County to the late Charlie Edward and Pearl Spivey Dean. Lawrence joined St. Paul United Methodist Church in 1948 and served as song leader for many years. In his early years, he worked on the family farm and then in 1965 he began a 30-year career at Ft. Rucker as an aircraft mechanic until his retirement. Lawrence loved being outdoors especially going to the fish pond with his wife, Carolyn. He enjoyed tending to his garden and satsumas trees, and cutting grass.
In addition to his parents, his loving wife of 65 years, Audrey Carolyn Dean; son-in-law, Gary Shields; great grandson, Grady Dean Shields all preceded him in death.
Survivors include four children: Mary Ann Shields, Linda Carol Evans (Bruce), Teresa Gayle Brannon (David), and Jimmy Lamar Dean (Pat); seven grandchildren: Joshua Shields, Brandon Shields, Jeremy Evans, Wes Evans, Jason Brannon, Crystal Love, and Lindsey Snipes; several great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends
