William Thomas “Tommy” Long age 73 of Cottonwood, Al passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017.


Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends John Smith and Tim Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Cottonwood City Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 P.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2017, one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted.


Mr. Long was born on February 28, 1943 in Blue Springs, Al the son of Evelyn (Reeder) and William Austin Long. Tommy moved to Cottonwood in 1959. He married Dorothy Windsor June 14, 1961 and they shared 55 years of happiness together. Tommy graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1961. He retired from SouthTrust Bank and Alfa Insurance. Tommy was of Baptist Faith.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Stepfather Buford Lilly, Beloved Daughter Wendy Long Cooley, Brothers Grover Long and Johnny Long, and niece Tammy Long Britt.


Surviving relatives include his wife Dorothy (Dot) Long, Daughter Paula (Ray) Ketcham, Granddaughter Anna (Will) Willis, Great-Granddaughters Aubrey and Reese Willis of Dothan, Al.; Brother Paul (Linda) Long, Cottonwood; Sisters-in-Law Sue Long, Eufaula, Al, Lily Long, Columbia, Mo. Brother-in-Law Jimmy T. Windsor, Cottonwood, Special Cousin JoAnn Wilson, Fayetteville, Ga, and many beloved niece and nephews.
