Mrs. Alice M. Dinkins, age 88, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday, January 6, 2022 at her residence. A Private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Dinkins was born on July 31, 1933 in St Petersburg, FL the daughter of Ernest Malcolm and Olivia Pauline Kirkland McDonald. She and her family moved to Montgomery, AL in her early childhood where she met her husband Jack while attending and graduating from Sidney Lanier High School in 1951.
Alice and Jack moved to Dothan in January 1965 for his job with GMAC Financial. She became very active in the community including being a member of Evergreen Presbyterian Church, a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Service League in which her greatest contribution was becoming the Director of the Gingerbread House, which focused on providing no cost childcare services for single mothers.
As her children grew older, she joined the workforce eventually retiring as an Assistant Manager with what is now Wells Fargo. Following Jack’s death in 2015, she became a volunteer with the newly formed Respite Care Ministry at First United Methodist Church of Dothan which focuses on a safe and caring setting for older adults with mild to moderate memory loss.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack; her parents; a daughter, Cindy; and 4 brothers. She is survived by a daughter, Connie Hinshaw, Dothan; 2 sons, Randall Dinkins, Dothan, Russell Dinkins (Cathi), Fortson, GA; 2 grandchildren, Nikki Britton and Robyn Farmer; several great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Ave., Dothan, Al. 36303 or Respite Care Ministry, First United Methodist Church 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.
