Alma Lane Middleton, 97, widow of Auston A. Middleton, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, at Extendicare Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Clearman Chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Gross and Reverend Rick Glenn officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Middleton Scholarship Fund, C/O Wallace Community College Foundation, 5565 Montgomery Highway, Dothan, AL 36303.
Born in Early County, GA, Alma was a daughter of the late Sion T. & Annie Bell Bates Lane. She was a homemaker and active in the Houston County Mental Health Association, Sesame Study Club, Southeast Alabama Rehabilitation Center and the United Way. In 1963, she was honored as Dothan’s Woman of the year. She also was a member of Memphis Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Middleton was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Lane and a sister, Mable Jordan.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Leila (Jim) Smith, Melba (James) Chasteen and Kaye (Roy) Barbaree all of Dothan, AL; three grandchildren, Roy (Wanda) Barbaree, JR, Amy (Mark) Miller and David (Kelly) Chasteen; six great-grandchildren.
