Mrs. Amanda Dorene Holbrook Cheatwood, a resident of Ozark, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023. She was 80 years old.
A private family memorial service for Mrs. Cheatwood will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Fort Mitchell National Veterans Cemetery. Holman Funeral Home of Ozark has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Mrs. Cheatwood was born July 12, 1943 in Sandy Hook, Kentucky to the late Franklin Lewis Holbrook and Bessie Lytle Green Holbrook. She graduated from Elliott County High School in Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Dorene married the love of her life, Roy Winford Cheatwood Jr., who she had known since childhood. She was an “Army” wife that lived in Washington State, Panama Canal and finally settled at Fort Rucker. Dorene operated Tots U.S.A. Daycare in Daleville until her retirement in 1997. She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed reading; her favorite author was Danielle Steele.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Winford Cheatwood, Jr, one son, Gary Lynn Cheatwood; one daughter, Enieda Elizabeth “Ellie” Cheatwood; one daughter-in-law, Sherie Michelle Cheatwood; one sister, Laverne Holbrook Fraley; and one brother, Benton Holbrook. She is survived by one daughter, Elissa Paige Cheatwood of Dothan; two sons, Kevin Lee Cheatwood (Tessa) of Ozark and John Scott Cheatwood of Orcas Island, Washington; five grandchildren, Morgan Shay Cheatwood, Damian Brock Cheatwood, Lillie Annabelle Cheatwood, Zoee Jayne Cheatwood, and Madelyn Grace Cheatwood; one brother, Billy Holbrook (Edna) of New Mexico. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to your choice of an adoption organization, a local school or library.
