            Mrs. Anita Mae Brooks Pugh of Jack, Alabama (New Hope Community), passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at the family residence, after an extended illness.  She was 93.


 


            Funeral services will be at 10 am Saturday, July 21, 2012, from Sorrells Funeral Home, Enterprise, Alabama, with Reverend Lanny Shepard officiating.  Burial will follow in the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9 until 10 am, Saturday, July 21, 2012.


 


            Anita was born July 21, 1918 in Haskell, Texas to the late Ira Arvil and Donna Bell Rosser Brooks.  She graduated from high school in Haskell, Texas, and continued her education at St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Amarillo, Texas, graduating in 1942.  She enlisted in the Army and after basic training received a rank of first lieutenant.  She was a WWII US Army Nurse Corp Veteran.  She served more than three years in combat areas with her unit; following, setting up, and operating field hospitals to receive wounded from General Douglas MacArthur’s campaigns to liberate the Philippines.


 


            Her loving husband of 59 years, R.W. Pugh, preceded her in death in 2005.  She was preceded in death by one son, Ray O’Neal Pugh, two brothers: Ira A. and John R. Brooks, and three sisters: Carrie Frederick, Nina Boyles, and Donna Roeder.


 


            Survivors include one daughter, Jeanne Eagerton and husband Billy of New Hope, AL; one granddaughter, Dr. Shea E. Ehret and husband Christian of Merritt Island, FL; one grandson, Brad Eagerton of New Hope, AL; and one great grandchild, Elena Clare Ehret of Merritt Island, FL; two sisters: Natalie Sanderson and husband Frank of Decaturville, TN and Wynell Hutson of Hereford, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
