Annie Merle Martin Harrell passed away August 4, 2021, at Southeast Health, following a car accident.
Merle was born to Grady and Cora Martin on October 19, 1929. She lived her entire life in the Rehobeth community, graduating from Rehobeth High School with perfect attendance for 12 years where she also played varsity basketball. Merle married her high school sweetheart, Ollie Harrell, Jr., and had two children, Sharon Harrell Hatfield and Kenneth Harrell.
Merle was a devoted member of Rehobeth Baptist Church and was the epitome of a fine Christian lady. Family and friends fondly remember Merle's famous Sunday dinners. The only thing Merle enjoyed more than showing her love of family through food was fishing with Ollie. She had many comical tales about their escapades. After Ollie passed, Merle traveled often with her sisters, led by their own travel agent, her beloved niece Gayle Snell
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie Harrell, Jr. Merle was the last of the Martin family and was also preceded in death by her brothers, Johnny Martin and Bobby Martin, her sisters, Ruth Branton, Eloise McClain, and Sarah Dooling,
She leaves behind her daughter, Sharon Hatfield and husband Ted, son Kenneth Harrell and wife Mary, grandchildren Stacey Watkins and husband Joey, Christy Smith and husband Jason, Jeremy Harrell, and Susan Hatfield-Forbes and husband Sean, great-grandchildren Alex Sitzes and husband Austyn, Joe Watkins, Jack Harrell, Kate Smith, Maggie Smith, Tyrion Forbes, and her newest love, great great-granddaughter Isabella Sitzes, and a host of nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.
Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
