Mrs. Aquila “Merle” Phillips Wilkins, age 82, a longtime resident of Dothan, passed away Friday, February 17, 2023, at Washington Rehab and Nursing Center in Chipley, Florida after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, February 20, 2023, at Mount Enon Baptist Church with Dr. Ricky Plummer and Reverend Don Tew officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 12:45 pm until 1:45 pm prior to the services at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations to the Building Fund at Mt. Enon Baptist Church, 3167 Iris Road, Dothan, AL. 36301.
Mrs. Wilkins was born February 3, 1941, in Abbeville, Alabama the daughter of Shelva Floyd and Bessie Mae Tharpe Phillips. She grew up in Abbeville and moved to Dothan where she has called her home. Mrs. Wilkins retired from Sony after 25 years of service then she worked at Dothan Sewing Center for 15 years. She loved spending time with her family, traveling, sewing, cooking and doing crafts. Mrs. Wilkins was a member of Mt. Enon Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, infant great-granddaughter, Madelyn Jane Brown, brothers, Floyd and Billy Phillips.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Walter K. “Dink” Wilkins of Dothan; daughters, Cathy Jackson (Kenny), Cottonwood; Elisa Watts (Dana), Taylor; sons, Maurice Brown (Felecia), Dothan, Tony Brown (Brenda), Dothan, David Wilkins (Lisa), Jacksonville, FL.; grandchildren, Jeffery Jackson (Becky), Hope Sewell (Keith), David Brown (Blair), Andrew Brown (Jenna), Garreth Watts (Rebecca), Shelly Collins (Kevin), Brittany Ezell (Josh), Kellie Brown, Brittany Marach and Kyle Wilkins; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; brothers, Walter Phillips (Sue), Lockhart, AL. and Henry Phillips, Ozark.
Pallbearers will be: Jeffery Jackson, David Brown, Andrew Brown, Garreth Watts, Josh Ezell, Keith Sewell and Kevin Collins.
