Mrs. Bernice Whatley Petrey of Clayhatchee, Alabama went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday, August 24, 2013. She was 89.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Chad Hixson officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Enterprise with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continue until service time.
Mrs. Petrey was born September 17, 1923, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Willie Ray and Minnie Benefield Whatley. She enjoyed singing and dancing. During her working career she was employed with Enterprise Nursing Home. For a number of years she was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School.
In addition to her parents her husband Leroy Petrey, two children, Jerry Petrey and Linda Howell, as well as three siblings, Coleman Whatley, Merle Graves and Bonnie Hogan, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherle Booth (Ronnie), Newton; five grandchildren: Tonya Howell, Daleville, Kevin Jones (Tracy), Chancellor, Chuck Hogan, Newton, Chad and Chris Petrey, both of Phenix City; five great-grandchildren: Amber Kreis (Susan Kreis), Madison and Kolby Jones, Kaila Odom and Chelsea McMaster; two great-great-grandchildren: Rylan Kreis and Lacey Odom; several special nieces, nephews and other extended family.
