Mrs. Betty Jean Borer, 81, of Ozark, passed away peacefully at her home after an extended illness on July 29, 2024 surrounded by her family.

A memorial service for Mrs. Borer will be held Monday, August 5, 2024, at 9:00 A. M. in the Memorial Garden at First United Methodist Church in Ozark, with Dr. Jason Thrower officiating, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.

Betty had a long and accomplished career as a Medical Technologist, having graduated first in her class from the American Academy of Medical Technology in Chicago, IL in 1962. Throughout her 30 year career, she was employed at both Dale Medical Center and Southeast Alabama Medical Center, as well as several physicians offices in Ozark.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark, where she and her husband, Richard Borer, were co-Presidents of the John Wesley Sunday school class for three years. She was also a member of the church choir for many years. Betty had a beautiful voice and loved singing and playing the piano. During her high school years, she auditioned and was selected for the National High School Chorus, where she had the honor of performing at the White House. She was a much-loved grandmother, an excellent seamstress, and a wonderful cook.

Betty was preceded in death by a son, Brentley Borer, and is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard Borer and daughter, Lisa Borer McGuffin of Ozark; a sister, Glenda Short of Ozark; granddaughter, Meg McGuffin of New York City; a daughter-in-law, Athena Borer and granddaughter, Haylie Borer of Columbia, SC.

The family is eternally grateful for the care and support provided by the wonderful staff at Community Hospice of Dale Medical Center. The skilled nursing care and compassion they provided was invaluable to both Betty and her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the First United Methodist Church’s general fund at 167 East Broad Street, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
