Betty Jean Thompson Dean, passed away on October 11, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on May 8, 1934, in Dothan, Alabama, Betty was the cherished daughter of the late Robert Earl Thompson and Eva May Marcum Thompson, and the devoted wife of the late Rev. Raymond Ellis Dean, with whom she shared 63 years of loving marriage and ministry.

Betty’s life was one of dedication and service, not only to her family but also to her community. A graduate of Dothan High School, she went on to co-own Ray Dean Farm Equipment Auction, where she operated the business alongside her husband, Raymond.

Family was the cornerstone of Betty’s life. She was a loving mother to her sons, Jerry Dean, Donnie Dean and his wife Karen, Ronnie Dean and his wife Sue, and her daughter, Kim Duren and her husband Jason. Betty’s joy was multiplied through her grandchildren, Jennifer Awan, Jason Dean, Justin Dean, Ashley Skinner and her husband Kole, Haley Hill, Wesley Dean and his wife Alyssa, Megan Dean, Lauren Maurer and her husband Nils, and Calvary, Amelia, Tucker, Josie, and Lilly Hannah Duren. Her legacy continued to grow with the addition of 12 great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness. Betty’s sister, Jeanette Mallow, also survives her.

Those who knew Betty will remember her for her faith in Jesus Christ her Savior. She was a woman who loved the Lord, and her family. She was full of wisdom. Her joy in life was her family and church. Traveling was another of Betty’s favorite things, as she loved exploring new places and creating memories with her loved ones. Betty loved singing hymns and songs of praise.

Above all, Betty cherished the time spent with her family. Whether it was a quiet afternoon or a boisterous family gathering, she was happiest surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her presence was a source of comfort and joy, and her influence will be felt for generations to come.

We will celebrate Betty’s life at 3 PM, Sunday, October 13, 2024 from Victory Family Church with Pastor Jason Duren and Pastor Kim Duren officiating. Burial will follow in Jellico Community Cemetery (Winslett Chapel Community Cemetery) with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 2 PM until 3 PM.
