Mrs. Betty Hughes was born November 19, 1942, in Coffee County to the late Foster and Daisy Wambles. Betty graduated from Zion Chapel High School in 1960 as the class favorite and Miss Zion Chapel. Upon graduation, Betty met the love of her life, Jesse, and they were married in August of 1963. She retired from the Postal Service in 2004 and brought joy to the lives of her fellow employees each day. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend; but most importantly, a child of God. She loved her church family and was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Hartford.
In addition to her parents, her husband Jesse Lawrence Hughes; a brother, Jerry Wambles; and a brother-in-law, William “Bill” Eubanks all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Kimberly Jean Sorrells (Perry); son, Christopher Lawrence Hughes (Connie); grandchildren: Jessica Jean Smith (Hamp), Jason Jerome Davis, and Brandon Lawrence Hughes; great-granddaughters: Abbie Claire Brannon, and Ellie Mac Smith; siblings: Gwen Majors (Steve), Patricia Eubanks, Peggy Farwell (Chris), Linda Simmons (Miley), Dorothy Polston (Randall), Bobbie Thompson, Steve Wambles (Lois), Johnny Wambles (Sandra); sister-in-law, Linda Wambles; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Day Springs Hospice and special caregivers, Lorrie Taylor, Sharon Grimes, and Annie Cain.
