Betty Jewel Murphy, a resident of Dothan, died June 23, 2017 at her residence following an extended illness. She was 82.
Funeral services for Mrs. Murphy will be held at 11AM Monday, June 26, 2017 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Pastor Mike Grimes officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Murphy was born April 26, 1935 in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Bunion and Mertie Jewel Smith Brackin. She grew up in the Malvern area where she was the oldest of 11 siblings and helped raise her brothers and sisters. Mrs. Murphy married the late Thomas Murphy and they moved to Dothan where they owned and operated Murphy’s Market for over 50 years. She had a love for gardening, flowers and was a member of Grandview Baptist Church.
Mrs. Murphy is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Pam Murphy; siblings, Benny Brackin, Billy Ray Brackin, Snap Brackin, Martha Leopold and Carolyn Everlen.
Survivors include her son, Ronald and Tammy Murphy; daughter, Judy Murphy; granddaughters, Olivia and Emily Murphy; step son, Bill and Elaine Murphy and their family, Michael, Teri, Rich and Hayden; sister, Linda Henderson (Dan); brothers, Wayne Brackin (Teresa), Johnny Brackin (Katrina), Tommy Brackin, Donald Brackin (Terri).
