Mrs. Betty Joyce Cherry Gilley, a resident of Ozark, passed away Tuesday February 6, 2024 at the home of her son surrounded by her family. She was 85 years old.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gilley will be 3:00 P.M. Thursday, February 8, 2024, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Chaplain Chris Adams officiating, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Thursday from 2:00 P.M. until service time.
Joyce was born October 8,1938 to the late William Delmer Cherry and Willie Belle Bowden Cherry of Hartford, where she was raised and graduated with the Geneva County High School Class of 1957. On October 9,1959, she married the love of her life, Jimmy Rex Gilley. They were married for 54 years. Joyce cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren and family. She enjoyed mountain vacations, fishing, and tending to her flower beds.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmy Rex Gilley; a sister, Bernell Cherry Knight; sister-in-law, Opal Cherry, brothers-in-law, Charles Wallace and Jerry Hagler.
She is survived by her son, Mike (Malissa) Gilley of Ozark; her daughter, Lynn Gilley Garza of Ozark; grandchildren, Shanna Gilley of Ozark, Dustin (Amber) Gilley of Skipperville, Mandy Denny of Ozark; and great grandchildren, Clayton Phillips of Ozark, Bowen Gilley, Griffin Gilley and Hank Gilley, all of Skipperville, and Maci Halstead, McKenzie Halstead, Allie Halstead and Maddox White, all of Ozark; brothers, Earl Cherry of Dothan, Kenneth ( Sandy) Cherry of Hartford, sisters-in-law, Jean Wallace of Newton and Betty Hagler of Ozark.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her granddaughter, Shanna Gilley, for taking care of her during the day and the nurses and aides with DaySpring Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to DaySpring Hospice Care, 100 Professional Lane, Enterprise, Alabama 36330.
