Betty Lee Gillespie, a spirited soul known for her infectious laughter and zest for life, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on May 26, 1937, in Florida, Betty's journey was marked by her love for family, her dedication as a military spouse, and her passion for life's simple pleasures.

Betty's career as a lunchroom worker was a testament to her nurturing spirit, ensuring that every child was greeted with a warm smile and a hearty meal. Her interests were as vibrant as her personality, from playing slot machines to the satisfaction of yard work. She cherished cooking out, watching football, and spending time on her front porch surrounded by loved ones.

Preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Eva Ferguson; husband, Donald Gillespie; and son, Danny Gillespie, Betty's legacy continues through her granddaughter, Heather Gillespie; great-granddaughter, Bayleigh Wood; and sister, Linda O'Neal.

Funeral services to honor and celebrate Betty's life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Doug Seale officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather for a time of remembrance from 1:00 P.M. until the service begins. Betty's memory will forever be cherished and her spirit will continue to inspire.

In remembrance of Betty’s life and love, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to American Cancer Society.
