Obituary: Mrs. Betty Merle Chapman Smith
Mrs. Betty Merle Chapman Smith of Dothan passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 76.
Funeral services will be held at 11a.m on Friday, September 6, at Rehobeth Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Free and Rev. Larry Newton officiating. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Memory Hill Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Mrs. Smith was born on November 15, 1936 in Columbus, GA to the late Henry Osber and Fannie Irene Helms Chapman. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed. She was a member of Rehobeth Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, J. Earl Smith, Dothan; five daughters: Deborah Jordan (Irby), Cathy White, Sandra Clifford (David), Barbara Greathouse (Stanley), Linda Havas (Pete) all of Dothan; eleven grandchildren: Rebecca Paige Nelson, Scott Seagle, Tracie Sexton, Tara Mullins, Michael Mullins, Rusty Covell, Katie Covell, Amber Greathouse, Clay Greathouse, Mattie Havas, Avery Havas; twelve great grandchildren; beloved aunt, Merle Ford, Ohio; beloved sister-in-law, Grace Fowler, Columbus, GA; a special niece, Angela Newton (Paul), Slocomb; other extended family and many friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons: Scott Seagle, Michael Mullins, Clay Greathouse; and nephews: Stephen Smith, Paul Newton, and Charles Smith.
