Obituary:  Mrs. Betty Newton Gissendanner


 


Mrs. Betty Newton Gissendanner of Slocomb went home to be with the Lord Monday, August 6, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 91.


 


A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Larry Newton and Rev. Theresa Howard officiating. Burial will follow in the Slocomb City Cemetery.


 


The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.


 


Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made in honor of Mrs. Gissendanner’s memory to Slocomb First United Methodist Church, PO Box 304, Slocomb, AL 36375.


 


Mrs. Gissendanner was born September 6, 1926 in Geneva County to the late Milton Thomas Newton Sr. and Jewel Dealva Gibson Newton. Mrs. Gissendanner possessed a kind and loving spirit and loved everyone she met. She was a fun-loving person who enjoyed life. She was intently involved with the community. As a faithful minister’s wife, Betty loved the Lord and exemplified the life of Christ. She loved to travel with her husband and visited most states. Betty loved her girls and often referred to them as her jewels! She will be profoundly missed by all that knew and loved her.


 


In addition to her parents, sister, Carolyn Landen; brother, Milton T. Newton Jr.; son-in-law, Lamar Loftin and grandson, Ben Feltman all preceded her in death.


 


Survivors include her loving husband of 74 ½ years, Joe Gissendanner; three daughters: JoAnnette Feltman (Joe), Betty Jean Chancey (Kennith) and Dianne Loftin; seven grandchildren: Tim Chancey, Kim Chancey, Chad Chancey (Marcetta), Tim Feltman (Wanda), Paula Woodham, Dana Wesson and Clint Loftin (Monica); 14 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; her favorite canine companion, Bruiser; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
