Betty Sue Powell, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024, at the age of 89 in Dothan, Alabama. Born on January 7, 1935, in Enterprise, Alabama, Betty’s life was a testament to the power of nurturing and devotion.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Cordle and Minnie Cordle.; beloved son Bruce Woodham, daughter Joyce George, sister Angela Kelly, and brother Bud Cordel.
Betty’s legacy continues through her adoring husband, Jimmy Wayne Powell and her cherished children, Bobby Stoops (Pam), Richard Woodham (Angie), Susie Zimmerman (Gary), Danny Woodham (Margie), Royce Woodham, and Chris Powell (Leah). Her spirit will forever be reflected in the lives of her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
For a decade, from 1968 until 1978, Betty poured her heart into caring for others at the Dothan Nursing Home and the First Baptist Nursery. Her love for children, especially babies, was the cornerstone of her life. Betty’s interests were as nurturing as her personality; she found joy in reading the Bible, crafting, quilting, and solving puzzles.
An excellent cook, Betty relished the opportunity to prepare big meals for holiday gatherings, bringing her family together around the table to share in her love and delicious food. Her green thumb was evident in the care she took working in her yard, creating a space of beauty and tranquility for all to enjoy.
Described by those who knew her as faith-filled and loving, Betty’s life was a living example of these virtues. Her unwavering faith guided her through life’s journey, and her love for her family was the warmth that comforted them all. Betty Sue Powell will be profoundly missed, yet her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
