Brenda Marie Boswell Smith, beacon of joy, generosity, and selflessness, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, in Rehobeth, surrounded by her family. Born on April 7, 1960, in Dothan, Brenda's life was a testament to the enduring strength of love, family, and faith.

Daughter of Joseph and Mobie Brackin Boswell, she grew up in the Wiregrass where she attended and graduated from Rehobeth High School in 1978. A woman of faith, Brenda was a dedicated member of Selma Baptist Church, where she regularly found solace in the fellowship of her church family. Her favorite holiday was Easter.

A true southern belle, she grew up showing cattle with the FFA and regularly worked around her Dad’s farm with her cousins during the warm Alabama months. A history enthusiast, she loved uncovering, record keeping, and preserving her family’s history.

Brenda's hands were rarely still, as she created beautiful crochet blankets that warmed the hearts and homes of those she loved. An enthusiastic cook, Brenda often shared her love through cooking for her family and friends. She was famous for her banana pudding (her husband’s favorite), and her highly requested (and fought over) vegetable casserole, deviled eggs, and whatever pie recipe she was experimenting with at the moment.

Brenda loved exploring the Great Smoky Mountains and would regularly collect trinkets such as bells, salt and pepper shakers, and angels. She was an avid Alabama football fan, loved the classic grit and charm of John Wayne movies, the twists and turns of soap operas, and the quiet pleasure of a good book. These were only matched by her love for gathering with friends and family, where she was notoriously known for being a “serious” card player and loved hosting rowdy Phase 10 get-togethers.

Family was the cornerstone of Brenda's life, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Her devoted husband, William "Mike" Smith, and her beloved daughter, Anna Smith, will forever hold her in their hearts. Brenda's special bond with her sister-in-law, Janice Kelley, cousins—Wanda Haisten (Doug), Wayne Godwin (Carole), Kevin Godwin (Michelle), Joey Godwin (Jan), Vicki Beard, and the late Keith Godwin, as well as dear friend, Judy Jones—was a source of strength and camaraderie. Her nieces and nephews, who held a special place in her heart, will miss her generous spirit and guiding presence.

Pallbearers are Jarrod Murphy, Heath Murphy, Jonathan Smith, Wayne Godwin, Joey Godwin, and Kevin Godwin.

Funeral services for Brenda will be held at 1 PM, Friday, November 22, 2024 at Selma Baptist Church with Reverend Jimmy Dean and Reverend Dennis Singletary officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 12 PM until 1 PM, prior to the service at Selma Baptist Church.
