Carl Elizabeth Weldon, a resident of Cottonwood, Alabama died peacefully Thursday, August 8, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 79.

Funeral Services will be held at 2PM, Sunday, August 11, 2024, in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Bishop Joe Patterson and Pastor Phillip Harrelson officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service in Cowarts Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Elizabeth was born to the late Marvin and Ada Mae Douglas Newman in Henry County, Alabama on July 17, 1945. She was a lifelong resident of the Wiregrass Area, settling down and raising her family in Cottonwood, Alabama. Her hobbies included camping in the Great Smokie Mountains, cheering on her beloved Alabama Crimson Tide in the fall “Roll Tide”, watching her boys fight it out on the NASCAR track in the summer, and watching the wildlife and nature take its course from her front porch in between. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She always put family first. She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Edward Cureton; her first husband, John Edward Cureton Sr; her second husband, Valgene Weldon; three sisters, Jeanette Douglass, Carolyn Newman, and Betty Newman.

Left to cherish her memories are a son, John Cureton Jr; (Rita); two daughters, Connie Carrasco (David), and Denise Davidson (Boyd); two sisters, Diane Pelham (Joe), and Martha Andrews; a brother, Marvin Jackson Newman (Sheila); eight grandchildren, and twenty-eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
