Mrs. Hannah Christine McPhaul Adams, a resident of Ozark, died Sunday, November 11, 2018, after a brief illness at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, Alabama, surrounded by her family. She was seventy-four years old.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 16, 2018, from the First United Methodist Church of Ozark with Reverend Michael Sigler, Reverend Bobbi Lassiter and Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Inurnment will be in the Meditation Garden of the First United Methodist Church, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends in the church Friday from 9:00 A.M. until service time.
Chris was born March 5, 1944, in Houston, Texas to the late Thomas D. McPhaul, Sr. and Hannah Faulk McPhaul. Chris moved to Ozark in 1956 and graduated from Carroll High School as valedictorian in 1962. She then graduated from the University of Alabama in 1966. She began her teaching career in the Tuscaloosa County Schools and then taught at Ozark Junior High for several years before taking time off to raise her three children. She returned to teaching in 1983 and completed a 25 year career teaching AP History and Spanish at Carroll High School. She was a dedicated teacher whom many students remember fondly.
Chris was active in numerous civic organizations through the years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark. She served in various capacities in the church and was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, Chris was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas D. McPhaul, Jr., her sister-in-law, Val McPhaul and brother-in-law, Ben C. Reeves.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Joseph W. Adams of Ozark; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Kirke Adams (Angie) of Ozark and Joseph W. Adams, Jr. (Lisa) of Buford, Georgia, one daughter and son-in-law, Hannah Christine Adams Parker (Scott) of Abbeville.
She was also the proud grandmother of eight wonderful grandchildren who, along with their friends, affectionately called her “Mama C”. Surviving grandchildren are Taylor Adams, Samantha Adams, Julia Christine Adams, Joe W. (Trey) Adams, III, Lily Adams, Jackson Parker, Hannah Grace (Gracie) Parker, and Mary Katherine Parker.
She is also survived by a special cousin, Marilyn Tamplin of Ozark, sister-in-law, Charlotte Reeves of Eufaula, nieces, Kelly Mattingly of Dallas, TX, Eleanor Reeves of Montrose, AL and Mary Mac Stukes of Atlanta, GA; nephews, Christopher McPhaul of Bethesda, MD, Ben C. Reeves, Jr. and Adam Reeves, both of Eufaula.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vivian B. Adams School, 2047 Stuart Tarter Road, Ozark, Alabama 36360; or the First United Methodist Church of Ozark, 167 East Broad Street, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
