Claire Hayes Huckeba of Dothan passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the age of 89.
Claire was born in Pelham, Ga to the late Clarence and Doris Hayes on February 2, 1932. She moved to Apalachicola, FL with her husband, Huck Huckeba, where they had a grocery business and Claire taught 1st and 2nd grade. Upon her husband’s retirement, they moved to Dothan where she taught at Northside Methodist.
She loved music, gardening, reading her Bible, and tea parties with her granddaughters. Her life was a beautiful display of God’s grace and love. She was a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She lived a life of prayer and encouragement to everyone who was privileged to know her. Her bright light continues to shine on in those she loved, and her Christian Legacy lives on in the grateful lives of her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Claire is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard “Huck” Huckeba; brother, C. E. Hayes; sister, Eunice Harris.
Survivors include daughters, Lark Young (Bill), her favorite son, and Kitty Huckeba; sister, Frances Ragan; granddaughters, Hannah Smith, Jennifer Hayborn, Holly DeArmond, Laurel Whaley, Kristin Barron, and Alexis Smith; great-grandchildren, Lillianna and Zackrey Whaley, Ian and Annelise DeArmond, Scarlett, Samuel, and Alice-Anne Smith, William, Ava, and Bennett Barron; special caregivers, Shirley White, Olivia Watford, Cassie Rasberry, Deborah Mixon, Melynda Crosen, and Kindred Hospice.
Pallbearers will be grandsons-in-law, Jeff Hayborn, Robert DeArmond, Will Barron, and Chris Smith; great-grandsons, Zackrey Whaley and William Barron.
Graveside services will take place at 2:30 PM Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Larry Anderson (Congregational Care Pastor at Harvest Church) officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. Soloist will be Keith Frith and violinist, Rusty Frith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Amazing Grace Ministry of Harvest Church or Kindred Hospice.
