Mrs. Corene Gay of Enterprise, Alabama passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at her home in Elba, Alabama following an extended illness. She was 79.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Enterprise with Pastor Sonny Moore and Pastor John McCrummen officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
Mrs. Gay was born January 14, 1935 in Caryville, Florida to the late Grady & Irene Garner. Corene was a member of Enterprise First Baptist Church and an active member of the Willing Workers Sunday School class. She retired as a LPN from Lyster Army Hospital after 39 years of nursing. Mrs. Gay was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, LP Gay.
Survivors include 3 daughters: Debra Crosby (Pat) of Elba, Karen Roberson of Columbus, GA, Kathy Lunsford (Lee) of Enterprise; 2 sons: Danny Gay (Judy) of Enterprise, Donald Gay (Lisa) of New Brockton; 5 sisters: Bertha Miller of Bonifay, FL, Elaine Bailes of Winter Garden, FL, Myrtle Coleman of Pensacola, FL, Ethel Michelotti of Bryson, NC, Ludene Harris of Pensacola, FL; 3 brothers: Roy Garner of Lynn Haven, FL, Jimmy Garner of Bonifay, FL, Joey Garner of Bonifay, FL; 14 Grandchildren: Daphne Schleusner, Stephanie Hawkins, Shawn Tanner, Steven Colbert, Britt Gay, Bryan Lunsford, Bradley Tanner, Jessica Herbster, Joshua Gay, Ashlyn Gay, Ryan Gay; 3 step-grandchildren: Maranda Waddail, Zach Miller, Shaun Crosby; 19 great grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
