Daisy Laurene (Laurie) Reid Mofield was born in Bartow, Florida on September 1, 1926; and passed from death to life eternal in Jesus on June 23, 2016 at her home in Dothan, Alabama.


 


Laurie will be buried beside her husband, Owen, with graveside services on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. (edt) at the Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, Florida with Pastor Joe Parrish from New Life Baptist Church in Ft. Meade, Florida officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to SEAMC Foundation or Covenant Hospice, Dothan, Alabama, or to any of the churches listed within that Laurie was a member of at one time. Burial arrangements are being handled by Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Dothan Alabama, and Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow, Florida.


 


Laurie graduated from Summerlin Institute in Bartow, Florida in 1944, and married her husband Owen on September 22, 1944, before his leaving to serve in World War II. Upon his return, they moved to Columbus, Kentucky, Owen’s home place; where their three children were born; then moved from Kentucky to the Bartow, Florida area. Laurie spent her working years in secretarial/bookkeeping positions including a secretary to Dr. Jimmy Day in Lakeland, Florida; a packing house in Lake Garfield, Florida; and Phosphate Mines Office in Bartow, Florida. After the death of her husband, Owen, Laurie moved to her daughter’s home in Panama City Beach, Florida where she worked with Mark Godwin, CPA until retiring and moving with her daughter’s family to Dothan, Alabama. During her lifetime, Laurie was a member of and active in the following churches: First Baptist in Bartow, Florida, Columbus Baptist in Columbus, Kentucky, Lake Garfield Baptist in Florida, West Bay Baptist in Florida, and at the time of her death, Bethel Baptist in Dothan, Alabama, Dr. Ricky Plummer, Pastor.


 


She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Edward Mofield; son, Johnny E. Mofield; mother, Daisy Raulerson Reid Johnston; father, John William Reid; and brother David R. Reid.


 


Her surviving family includes sisters, Frances Reid Lewis, Ft. Meade, Florida, and Rose Reid, Florence, South Carloina; a son, Jerry O. Mofield, Roanoke, Virginia; a daughter, Linda Mofield Bates and son in law R. Wayne Bates of Dothan, Alabama; grandchildren, Mark (wife Amy) Mofield, and Scott (wife Bobbi Jo) Mofield of Roanoke, Virginia; great grandchildren, Noah, Justin, Brendan, and Hunter Mofield and Patrick, Michael and Tyler Long of Roanoke, Virginia; nieces, Patricia (husband John) Lusby, Kathryn (husband John) Billups; nephews, Gary Reid and Greg Reid, Karl (wife Verna) Lewis; nine great nieces and nephews; and one great great niece.
