Doris M. Sanders passed away quietly at her home and was received into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 2, 2023. Doris came to faith in Jesus Christ through the faithful ministry of First Baptist Church of Buchanan, GA. She served her Lord with joy for over 75 years.
Her celebration of meeting Jesus face-to-face will occur at First Baptist Church of Dothan, AL on Thursday, May 4 at 2 p.m. The service will be officiated by her son, Dr. Cecil Sanders Jr. and other pastors. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery.

She was born in Cedartown, GA to Leonard O. and Flora McKibben on September 11, 1934. Doris graduated in 1951 from Buchanan High School where she was valedictorian of her class. She was active in sports and loved to play basketball. She is a graduate of West Georgia College and Oglethorpe University. Following completion of her education degree at Oglethorpe University, she taught school in Cedartown, GA and Richmond, VA.
Doris was a member of First Baptist Church of Dothan since 1963 and was active in teaching 9th grade girls in Sunday School for many years. In 1957 she and Cecil were married after dating for five years. Doris was a dedicated wife and loving mother of three sons to whom she devoted her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents – Mr. and Mrs. L.O. McKibben Sr. and by her brother, L.O. McKibben, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Cecil M. Sanders, Sr. M.D., by three sons, Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. (Lynn) of Headland, Mark M. Sanders (Jordan) and Briggs A. Sanders (Dawn) of Dothan. By six grandchildren – Bryley Weaver (Nick) of Warner Robins, GA, Laurin White (Bryan) of Birmingham, AL, Layne Sanders of Birmingham, AL, Brooke Sanders of Mobile, AL, Zachary Sanders (Anna) of Auburn, AL, and Abby Catherine Sanders of Charlotte, NC. By five great-grandchildren who brought her much joy – Tucker and Sanders White, Levi Sanders, Gracelynn and Cayson Weaver.
