Dorothy Brown Halstead, a resident of Dothan, Alabama died Friday, May 28, 2021 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family. She was 98.
Graveside services will be held at 2PM, Sunday, May 30, 2021 in Memphis Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Rick Glenn officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made in her honor to Encompass Hospice 3379 W. Main Street, Dothan, Alabama 36305.
Born December 21, 1922 to L.C. and Artie Brown in Dale County, Alabama. Dorothy worked at S.E. Kress in downtown Dothan in the cosmetic section where she met her future husband, Fred. He always claimed the cute little brunette winked at him and that is all it took. They married August 5, 1943 and remained married until his death in June of 1997. After raising her three children, she worked at JC Penney and then later for Sneads Factory Outlet.
She had a very strong faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and made sure each of her children stayed active in their faith also. Strong, compassionate, loving, and caring would be an accurate description of our Mother and Grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of fifty-four years, Fred Halstead; son, Paul Brown; brother and sister in-law Gene and Jean Brown.
Survivors include two daughters, Celia Baggett (Wayne), Pinkard, AL and Jane Weatherly (Terry) Headland AL; a daughter in- law, Susan Halstead, Fairhope, AL; seven grandchildren Charles Creel III (Michele), Tallassee, AL, Bob Creel, Montgomery, AL, Andrew Halstead, Jackson, MS, Tony Weatherly (Meagan), Deer Park, TX, Elizabeth Woodham (David), Headland, AL, Diane Calhoun (Gregory), Colquitt, GA, and Hayley Halstead, Kirkland, WA; twelve great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Encompass Hospice for the great love and care they showed Mrs. Dorothy
