ABBEVILLE… Mrs. Dorothy Childree Byrd, a resident of Abbeville (formerly of Ozark), died late Sunday evening, November 28, 2021, in the Henry County Health & Rehab in Abbeville. She was 86.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 2, 2021, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Joe Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in the Arguta Community. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Byrd, daughter of the late Arthur Amos Childree and Thelma Lilly Andrews Childree, was a native of the Arguta Community, near Ozark. She lived in Ozark until moving to Abbeville in 2015 due to declining health. Mrs. Byrd was formerly employed at the Dale County Courthouse in the Tag Office and taught school at the Ozark Christian School, which was affiliated with Ozark First Assembly of God Church. She was co-owner and operator of the Flowers Bakery Thrift Store in Ozark. Mrs. Byrd was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Byrd, a son, Edward E. Byrd, a sister, Sara Childree Somerford
Surviving relatives include her son, Mike Byrd (Felicia), Abbeville; two sisters, Shirley C. Browning (Jimmy), Beamon Community and Patricia C. Memrick (Joe), Tallahassee, FL; is three grandchildren, Chris Byrd (Lexi), Channing Byrd Pappas, and Trent Byrd; five great-grandchildren, Alexa, Hendrix, Eva, McKenzie, and McKenley; several nieces and nephews including, Debbie Hubbard, Andy Cron, Michael Cron, Sherrie Nelson, Terry Browning, Jason Memrick, and Briana Memrick.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Henry County Health & Rehab Facility, Flowers Hospital- 4th Floor South Wing, and her sister, Shirley Browning for their loving care and kindness shown to Dorothy and the family.
