Dorothy M. Cook of Ashford passed away Monday, March 14, 2022 at the age of 95.


Dorothy was born on May 3, 1926 to the late Simon Burkett and Lena McNeal Burkett. She grew up in Houston County where she met the love of her life and husband of 63 years, Herman Cook. Together they raised two sons and were gifted with two loving daughters-in-law. Dorothy enjoyed doing crafts, ceramic paintings, and watching soap operas. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.


Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Cook, and 8 siblings.


Survivors include sons, Larry Cook (Gayle) and Floyd Cook (Jean); grandsons, Bill Cook (Wanda), Chris Starling (Tracy), and Patrick Cook (Rechelle); granddaughters, Cheryle Marks III (Richard) and Cindy Defaria (Bernardo); several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nettie Burkett; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Betty McNeal.


Asked to serve as pallbearers were Bill Cook, Patrick Cook, Avery Cook, Blake Weed, Bernardo Defaria, and Wesley McClendon.


Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Coley Holloway officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
