Mrs. Edna Irene Aplin of Samson went to her eternal home on Friday, November 23, 2012 at age 78. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Samson, with Rev. Sam Totten officiating. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Samson Building Fund.
Mrs. Aplin was born in Dothan, AL on January 23, 1934 to the late Robert E. Lee and Ruby Rogers Lee; she is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Eugene Lee. A 1952 graduate of Dothan High School, Mrs. Aplin was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Median Women II Sunday School Class, and a former choir member. In addition to her immeasurably cherished family, she loved her pets, her flowers and fruit trees, Braves baseball, and collegiate football – the SEC, but ’Bama most of all. She was an avid collector of mint issue dolls, snow globes and music boxes, a remarkable baker and cook, lover of word find puzzles and computer solitaire.
Mrs. Aplin is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Marion Durell Aplin of Samson; five sons, Joel (Clara) and Tim (Connie) all of LaGrange, GA, Bobby (Janice) of Dothan, Richard (Sue) of Huntsville, and Jonathan (Shannon) of Hope Hull; nine grandchildren, Brian (Catherine) and Chip, Jennifer, Kayla and Logan, Benjamin and Geoffrey, Tatum and Shaw; three brothers, Joe Lee (Delma), Richard Lee (Barbara) and Roger Lee (Susan), all of Dothan; three sisters, Mary Helon Trawick, Sharron Choate (Jim) and Sue Blackshear (Harry), all of Dothan; sister-in-law, Myrna Lee Nelson (Bob); and numerous nieces and nephews.
