Our precious Mother, Edna Ruth Sewell McCallister, 89, entered her eternal home on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Extendicare in Dothan, Alabama.


She was a selfless, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great- great grandmother. She was the epitome of Proverbs 31:28 “Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also and he praiseth her”.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2015 at Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Ricky Plummer officiating. Her grandson, Casey Williamson will be delivering the family’s celebration of her life. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at Bethel Baptist Church and at other times at the family residence.


Born in Geneva County, Alabama, near Graceville, Florida on May 9, 1926, Ruth was a daughter of the late Lonnie Mon and Minnie Baxley Sewell. She was a homemaker while caring for many of her grandchildren. She was also employed by Dairy Fresh as a lab technician for twelve years.  She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a children’s Sunday School Teacher, VBS worker, WMU member and encourager to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She loved her Sunday School Class, Welcome Class, and her sweet friends.  She was gifted in writing cards and notes of encouragement to family and friends.


She was preceded in death by her loving husband of seventy years, Howard Shelton McCallister.


Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence (Mona) McCallister; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sue (Wayne) Hodges, Savannah, Georgia, Janie (Richard) Williamson, Donna (Kent) Skinner, Sandy (Joey) Arroyo; sisters –in-law, Earline Efurd, Dothan, AL, and Dot Womack, Ashford, AL; thirteen grandchildren; Charese Schmetz, Wynne Hodges, Casey Williamson, Colby Williamson, Caleb Williamson, Chris McCallister, Anthony McCallister, Kala Friedrich, Keesha Tyler, Kole Skinner, Hannah Bruner, Seth Arroyo, Shelton Arroyo; twenty- six great grandchildren; one great- great grandchild.


Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund- Create a Legacy, 3257 S. Cottonwood Road, Dothan, Alabama  36301.
