                                                                                 Elizabeth Alston Shivers Wheelock


 


            Elizabeth Alston Shivers Wheelock, a long time resident of Dothan, died in the early morning of September 20, 2014 at a local hospital.


             Memorial services will be held on Wednesday September 24, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the Glover Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William F. Broach officiating and Kendall Glover directing.  The family will be receiving friends in the parlor at Glover Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Wednesday prior to services.


            In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to: Vivian B. Adams School, 2047 Stuart Tarter Road, Ozark, AL. 36360 or to The Scholarship Fund of Dothan Home Builders Association, 2123 Denton Rd. Suite 1, Dothan, AL. 36303 or to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1346, Dothan, AL. 36302.


            She was born on November 29, 1932, in Marion, AL. the daughter of William Lewitt Shivers and Willie Mae Perkins Shivers.  She was a graduate of Perry County High School and Judson College.  Elizabeth and Hugh Franklin Wheelock were married in 1955.


            Elizabeth’s most recognized talent is the magnificent hand sewn heirloom pieces she created that are treasured by many recipients across the Southern States.


            Mrs. Wheelock was the Executive Director of the Homebuilders Association of Dothan and the Wiregrass.  She lead the Association to win the coveted Homebuilders Association of Alabama Presidents Award six times.  At the time of her retirement a scholarship was established in her name.  Elizabeth was a longtime advocate of the Special Olympics, the Greenhouse Project at Vivian B. Adams School, the Botanical Gardens, Habitat for Humanity and the Girls Club.  She was a member of the Eclectas Club.  A cradle Episcopalian, she is a member of All Saints Church in Pensacola, FL.


 She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hugh Franklin Wheelock, Sr. who died in 2001, and a sister Mildred Shivers Sheen.


 A devoted mother who always gave consideration to her children’s needs in every decision she made, Elizabeth is survived by her three children, Hugh F. Wheelock, Jr., Dothan, Laurin Wheelock, Crestview, FL., and Lewitt Shivers Wheelock, Dothan.  Other survivors include a sister, Frances Shivers Cleverdon, Magnolia Springs, AL., a brother, William Lewitt Shivers, Jr. his wife Kathy, Cropwell, AL. and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.


 Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.
