Mrs. Elsie Evelyn Waggoner Hammer of Samson, Alabama passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2018 at the age of 102.


Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Alcoa, Tennessee with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, Alabama directing.


Mrs. Elsie, was born December 10, 1916 in Knoxville,Tennessee, to the late Carnice Lamont and Clara Hankins Waggoner.  She was a member of the Black Oak Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.  She was an accomplished seamstress, even earned a part in the movie “Christy”.  Her favorite saying was “If you’re not growing, you’re dying”.


She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Sanders Hammer, Sr., son, Wayne Edward Hammer, daughter, Carol June Rice; grandson, John Andrew “Andy” Hammer and two granddaughter; Debbie King & Diane Dinsmore, brother; Carnice Lamont Waggoner, Jr and sister; Opal Waggoner.


Survived by two sons; George S. Hammer (Linda) of Samson, Alabama and Glen Richard Hammer (Mary) of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida,; six grandchildren and a number of special great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
