Emily D. Atkins, a resident of Dothan, died early Friday morning, April 21, 2017 at Extendicare Health and Rehab. She was 93.


Memorial services for Mrs. Atkins will be held at 11 AM Tuesday April 25, 2017 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Dwaine Cook officiating. Committal burial services will be held at 2 PM following the service at Gardens of Memory cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.


Mrs. Atkins was born February 18, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Salvador and Vita DeLorenzo DeBennetto. She was a Registered Nurse and worked during World War II. Upon moving to Dothan, she was a member of Hodgesville Baptist Church and enjoyed going to Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in their quilting and crafts ministry. Mrs. Atkins had a passion for helping others.


Survivors include two daughters, Karen Robinson and Janice Fitchpatrick, both of Dothan; two sons, Gary Gene Atkins (Barbara), Spencer, NY, Bernard Lee Atkins, Jr. (Kate), Willseyville, NY; ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
